Shedding is natural characteristic of natural fiber carpets. Loose bits of natural fiber may appear on the carpet surface and can be removed with vaccuming. Improper maintenance, dragging objects, or overly aggressive vaccum methods can distort the weave and cause excessive fuzzing.

Depending on pattern and color, yarns produced from natural fibers may sometimes appear to streak in the face of the carpet. To an overwhelming degree this is due to the fact that jute is a natural fiber and being such must be allowed greater tolerance than those of synthetic yarns.
